With camping, trout fishing, and canoeing, the 19 miles of Current River from Montauk State Park to Akers Ferry in Dent and Shannon counties has it all. There are two designated trout management areas below Montauk Trout Park that offer opportunities to experience some of Missouri’s most productive trout waters. Blue Ribbon Trout Area; the 9-mile stretch between the lower boundary of Montauk State Park and Cedargrove Access is managed for largeĀ brown trout. On this stretch of river, only one trout may be kept and it must be at least 18 inches long.

Trout can be found in great numbers in the upper current river, partly due to the release of stock fish at Montauk.

Enjoying The River

There are many activities that you can enjoy on the current river. Please remember to be courteous to other river users.

  • Don't throw trash in the water or on the banks, pack it out with you.
  • Bring plenty of water and food, and don't overdo it.
  • Plan your floating/paddling route, including potential emergency exit points, before getting in the water.
  • Be aware of local and state laws for the area, including safety device requirements.
